Pride of the PNW – Launchings and Refits

by Norris Comer

We at Nautical Northwest magazine proudly celebrate the vision, guts, and hard work of our region’s boatbuilding community with Pride of the PNW, which will be dedicated to recent, notable new launchings and refits. This is, by no means, a comprehensive listing, but we offer these inspiring dreams-turned-boats as a sampling across our marine sectors, from superyachts to commercial fishing vessels; tugs to trailerables; barn projects to maritime yards. We salute thee!

Do you have a notable launching or completed refit to share with us? Email over that high-resolution 300 dpi photography and story details to norris@nauticalnw.com.

1. Emerald Clipper is Splashed

La Conner, WA-based shipbuilder Mavrik Marine, Inc., launched a new whale-watching boat, Emerald Clipper, for Seattle operator FRS Clipper, Inc. Scheduled for delivery this year, the 103’, high-speed aluminum catamaran can hold 150 passengers and a crew of four to eight. Emerald Clipper will be a primary way that locals and visitors alike will be able to experience the natural beauty of Puget Sound.

2. Argonaut II Reborn

Argonaut II receives a second life in Port Townsend, WA, with new planking, frames, and a centerline repair. Her 104 years of rich history serving the remote coastline of British Columbia and her ongoing restoration is being documented through video storytelling. Follow along on YouTube.com/@MV_Argonaut.

3. 100 Years for Malibu

Malibu, a 100’ motor yacht, built in 1926 by N.J. Blanchard Boat Co. and designed by Seattle Yacht Club (SYC) member Ted Geary, will lead this year’s SYC Opening Day boat parade after an extensive refit. A fleet of other vessels turning 100 years old this year will follow Malibu through the historic Montlake Cut parade route.
