Pride of the PNW – Launchings and Refits

by Norris Comer

We at Nautical Northwest magazine proudly celebrate the vision, guts, and hard work of our region’s boatbuilding community with Pride of the PNW, which will be dedicated to recent, notable new launchings and refits. By no means a comprehensive listing, we offer these inspiring dreams-turned-boats as a sampling across our marine sectors: superyachts to commercial fishing vessels; tugs to trailerables; barn projects to maritime yards. We salute thee!

Do you have a notable launching or completed refit to share with us? Email over that high resolution 300 DPI photography and story details to norris@nauticalnw.com.

The storied Reedsport, OR, boatbuilder Fred Wahl Marine Construction has christened their newest fishing vessel, the 58 x 28-1/2 Chagix̂. These sought-after, Oregon-made fishing vessels have a stellar reputation at sea as workhorses that can handle just about anything. The word “chagix̂” means halibut in Unangam Tunuu (Aleut language).

Portland-based Schooner Creek Boat Works launched Maui Magic, a new power catamaran destined for Hawaii and charter life. At the time of this writing, the vessel is being delivered to owners Maui Magic Adventure Snorkel via cargo freight from Seattle. After the final commissioning and a blessing, Maui Magic will be the platform through which countless visitors to Maui experience wonderful spots like the coral reefs of Molokini Crater.

Ballard, Seattle’s Western Towboat famously designs and builds their own tugboats. On DATE, they launched their newest tug, the 120’ Titan. Thanks to the work of fellow boatyard Snow & Co., just across the street, Titan got to benefit from a brand-new floating drydock as well.
