TG 7.9 Supreme

by Chuck Gould

Mother Nature requires the Finnish people to avoid compromises in the design and construction of a boat. Bisected by the Arctic Circle, Finland has a long coastline along the Baltic Sea. Winters are harsh enough to freeze saltwater. Severe storms and challenging seas can develop quickly and in any month of the year.

In the early 1970s, the company now known as TG Boats began building offshore racing boats. The original boats won several Nordic racing championships. TG eventually shifted focus to trailerable sport utility boats in search of a larger market. Fifty years’ experience building boats for some of the most demanding conditions pleasure boaters are ever likely to face has perfectly positioned TG to build boats more than capable of serving well along the northern Pacific Coast and on the Salish Sea.

TG offers four models, from 20’ to 26’ in LOA. The flagship of the line is the TG 7.9 Supreme.

The TG 7.9 sleeps four. There are two berths in the forward cuddy cabin, uniquely accessed through a hatch on the foredeck. The design alleviates the claustrophobic aspects of some traditional V-berths and permits inclusion of a window.

Five decades of practical experience position TG Boats to effectively engineer spaces aboard the TG 7.9 Supreme. Ergonomics facilitate functions and comforts more commonly associated with larger boats. There is storage under most seats, with one seat on hinges above the galley sink. Deck space on the foredeck and in the cockpit offer great options for fishing, crabbing, sunbathing, or socializing.

With an 8’6” beam, the TG 7.9 Supreme can be trailered in most areas without any special permits. The heavily reinforced transom allows the use of outboard motors rated up to 350 horsepower.

On the hunt for a stout sport utility boat? Many boaters investigating the TG 7.9 Supreme will discover that their quest is “Finnished.”
